What Doulas Do
Although the role has only recently become commonplace, doulas have been faithfully supporting birthing people since time immemorial. Whether friends, mothers, or sisters, we are that special birth attendant whose sole job is to support the birthing family, providing emotional, spiritual, and physical support, guidance through the tough moments, and a pillar of calm throughout the journey. We do not replace birth partners—we’re there to support and guide them as well.
Doulas devote our entire focus on the well-being of the birthing family.
What I Offer
Birth is a transformative and primal experience for everyone involved, and, as a doula, I am committed to helping you create the experience that’s right for you. I have no judgement or preconceived notions about what that will look like, but I do have information, knowledge, and guidance to offer.
I am the calm person in the room, with one foot in that primal space with you and the other planted in the external present moment. Using aromatherapy, massage, a keen understanding of physiology and the birth process, and whatever supportive techniques and tools you prefer in the moment, I am entirely focused on your well-being. I am the one who remembers what you planned, knows how to communicate with your birth team, and will be ever devoted to helping you stay focused and relaxed.
I will be there when you call me until your baby is in your arms, and will continue to be there for you on your journey down the path of motherhood.

About Melissa
Growing up the daughter of a childbirth educator and doula in the 80s and 90s, I vividly remember my mother waking me up after attending births to tell me all about what she witnessed. We had open conversations about pregnancy and childbirth, and I feel so fortunate to have been given that seed of wisdom about what my body is capable of doing—I have never doubted it.
